The Progressive Subway is looking for new writers!
Hello, everyone! Do you love music? Do you also sort of hate it sometimes? If you answered “yes” to the second question, you might have the heart of a music critic! Here at The Progressive Subway, we’re looking for new writers who are passionate about progressive rock and metal (and related genres), want to improve their writing skills, and want to bring attention to some of the great, undersung bands in our little musical niche. If you think you’d be a good fit for our site, follow the details below and send us an application!
What we offer:
- A tight-knit community who love to discuss music and just hang out together. Also, you’ll get an endless stream of miscellaneous music recommendations.
- An opportunity to improve your writing skills in a supportive environment.
- Early access to new releases.
- Absolutely no money! You think writers get paid?
What you offer:
- While we will provide support, we do want people with a good base level of writing proficiency.
- Time to spare: the expectation will be that you can write 3-4 reviews per month (full-time) or 1-2 per month (part-time). We’ll have a probationary period in which we’ll ensure you can meet the pace of the blog.
- We welcome applicants from all backgrounds. Women, people of colour, and members of the LGBTQ+ community are warmly encouraged to apply.
- We’re particularly interested in prog rock enthusiasts and people who enjoy trad prog and powerprog, as we want to cover those genres more effectively.
How it works:
- Send an application to theprogressivesubway@gmail.com telling us a bit about you, your music taste (feel free to share your Last.fm, RateYourMusic or similar account if you have one), and your writing experience, as well as any examples of writing you’d like to share.
- Make sure to include “REVIEWER APPLICATION” in the subject line so we don’t miss it.
- If we think you’re a good fit for the site, we’ll ask you to complete a test review (details will be provided at that stage).
- We’ll evaluate the test reviews and then contact the people we’d like to join.
- We use a Discord server and the site is operated through WordPress. Any prior experience with either platform is a bonus, but we’ll provide the necessary guidance and initiation for new writers.
We look forward to hearing from you, and we promise we won’t use a stupid AI to interview you!
