If you’d like to send us a promo or request a review, please first take a look at our promo information. You can contact us at theprogressivesubway@gmail.com. Any other questions or feedback is also welcome!
For artists:
- Make sure your music is relevant to progressive metal in some form. We also cover adjacent genres (e.g. heavier prog rock, avant-garde metal/rock, post-metal, mathcore, etc.) depending on reviewer taste, but our main focus is prog metal.
- We only cover bands that have less than 20.000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Our focus is on bringing the spotlight to promising obscure artists.
- Make sure the album was released within the last two months. There are exceptions, but typically, we do not cover things that were released more than two months ago (and when we do, it’s usually because we’re slow). In December/January we review albums that we missed from that release year.
- We only cover albums from the current release year. We do have a Lost in Time column for albums at least a decade old that fell into (or never made it out of) obscurity, but the quality standard for that is extremely high, so it is unlikely we will cover just any release for that.
- We do not cover singles or EP’s under 15 minutes.
For potential staff:
We are also always on the lookout for new writers, so if you like talking about music more in-depth and have a passion for digging up gems, send us an email with the following information:
- What your taste in prog metal and adjacent genres (see above) is along with your favorite bands (don’t go overboard though).
- What experience you have with writing, reviews or otherwise. If you have published work (e.g. reviews on rateyourmusic or metal-archives), link us an overview or example of those.
- How much time you’re willing to put in.
For visibility’s sale, please include REVIEWER APPLICATION in all caps at the beginning in the subject. We are pretty understaffed in the email department, so it might take us a while to reply if you send us an application, but this can help speed up the process a little bit. Once we do get to it, we will send you an album for a test review. If we deem you a good fit and your writing is good enough, we will send you an invite to our Discord server and you can consider yourself a member of the team! We look forward to hearing from you!
